Varicella-zoster Virus (VZV) |
In the war against host cells, the varicella-zoster virus has 3 main tactics:
- Shut down host cell's protein synthesis, inject viral genome, and initiate synthesis of virus genome and assembly of virions quickly and efficiently.
- Avoid and disable the host cell's defenses by splicing the mRNA necessary to produce proteins that would signal the production of antibodies or apoptosis.
- Hide latent virus in the ganglia of nerve cells to activate later.
